OSIAN

I caught a local bus this morning out to Osian located 65 km north of JODPHUR
Osian is a well known oasis in the Thar desert and was a popular trading centre on the old silk route from as early as the 2nd century AD.
It contains the remains of 16 Hindu temples and is stil revered by Hindus, who come here regularly to worship.
The old STEPWELL dates back many centuries and was the one of the oldest and most important water points on the silk
Today just happens to be an important Hindu festival day so the bus was jam packed on the way there early this morning.
I spent a few hours walking amongst the locals there and taking it all in.
Once again never saw another westerner/tourist although there are apparently a number of luxury tent establishments in the region which do camel safaris.
Couldn't believe how many piled out of the bus from JODPHUR at around 12.
They somehow cram double the allowable number into vehicles.
Fortunately it was pretty empty (read full) on the way back but the bus stopped some 8km from the city CENTRE where we all piled out.
I walked a bit to get away from the tuc tucs at the busstop and eventually took one to the clock tower market.
Well that was the idea.He had other passengers and had bullshit me about the destination and dropped me right on the other side of the city.
So I walked the 5 km or so back to my hotel ,in searing heat and through procession after procession of Hindu celebrations blaring out music and bringing traffic to a standstill.
This must've been the reason the bus stopped 8 km short?
Anyway got to see more of Jodphur than I'd bargained for but it was an experience I won't forget in a hurry 😁
