Just a word on the transport network here in Turkey.
I'm pretty sure that most people who've never been here would hsve a fairly preconceived idea of a fairly 3rd world set up.
They'd be horribly wrong!
From the moment we arrived in Istanbul ,.....through to Antalya,....and now in Kas, we've experienced nothing but unbelievable efficiency.
In Istanbul the extensive bus/tram network,....together with the purchase of a R15 ISTANBUL CARD allows one to travel throughout the city for a pittance.
Every ride,....even the metro under the bosphoros connecting the two continents ,costs around R7.
No jokes!
Same applies to Antalya. We arrived at the bus terminus, situated 8km outside the city, at 6am on the overnight bus and walked 20 metres to catch a dolmus to the old city,....cost R25 for us both.
We could just as well have caught the tram situated about 200m away, and served by running escalators designed for people with luggage. We took this option to get back to the otogar for our 4 hour trip to Kas.
We had earlier taken the luxury overnight bus from Istanbul to Antalya (R450 each) and then (yesterday) to Kas (R100 each).
And in 3 dsys time there are buses leaving hourly for our next destination.
Not a single bit of graffiti and absolutely no chance of being accosted in a subway.WHY?????,.......Accountability stupid!
Have a look at the condition of the Antalya tram taken yesterday,......imagine this system at home!It would've been burnt in a month.
